Two Sonatas for Organ
The two organ sonatas were composed in 2009 and 2010. The first, Il Girovago, was inspired by a poem of the same title by Giuseppe Ungaretti. The first lines of the poem in a translation by Andrew Frisardi, "...there is no place on earth where I can settle down" are reflected in the restless nature of the music. The second sonata, Sonate d'Église, which is subtitled "...the return of the faithful", suggests the arrival of a congregation on a festive day, which offers a litany of prayers, and at the end of mass departs joyfully out into the bright noonday. Both sonatas feature three movements in the traditional fast-slow-fast form and are eminently suitable for liturgical use.
